Considering that the Philippines is one of the top man power exporter, meaning thousands are flying abroad daily whether landing a job, for tour and education, vacation and all other reasons. It is important to know some of the privileges you're entitle with.Specifically, in this blog, you'll be able to know the considerations for your car (motor vehicle) importation as you return in your country (Philippines) being the so called "Returning resident".
Specific importation privilege
Generally, as the law provides, importations of all types of used motor vehicle is prohibited (E.O. 156), but, being a returning resident, law also indicates such exemption under certain conditions.Conditions as to the Returning resident itself, subject motor vehicle for importation and some other consideration under No-dollar Importation program.
For the returning resident itself, he/she must at least resided abroad for 1 year (accumulated within three years period of stay) up to the date of such importation.
For the subject vehicle for importation, it must be left hand drive, not exceeding 3 tons of Gross Vehicular Weight (GVW), registered under the name of the Returning resident (the importer) for at least 6 months prior to importation and must be accompanied with Certificate of Emission Compliance (CEC) issued by the country of origin and authenticated by the Philippine embassy in the same country.
For other conditions are, an individual can only avail the program only once, must only be 1 vehicle is allowed per family (husband, wife and emancipated children) and there shall be no resale for 3 years.
Clearing and releasing
With further assistance by the contact Customs Broker, all other requirements and procedures for the processing and releasing will follow necessary to clear and release the shipment from the Bureau of Import Services (BIS) and Bureau of Customs (BOC), such as release certificate by BIS after ocular inspection of the subject vehicle imported as to the details submitted upon the application of the CAI, payment of all corresponding fees and charges including duties and taxes, then, shipment can now be legally withdrawn and delivered to consignees' premises.Note: If you're reading this article few years after herein post date, you may reach us here and we'll see how we can help you with.
