ROLE OF CUSTOMS BROKERS FOR YOUR IMPORT AND EXPORT, PH



Many of our fellows saying "who are these customs brokers (CB)?" Next perhaps, what they does? Or, in a deep sense, what are their role in the nature of profession?
Well, indeed, it seems to be sophisticated but we'll just put it in a brief yet comprehensive way.
Through the thousands of laws, rules and regulations embodied within the arm of the Philippine government that had been promulgated and implemented by various agencies from the time our country commenced the so called "import and export" of different commodities, constant updates and amendments up to the introductions of new pace of Philippine trade that even includes the international negotiations being entered into, for the purpose of uplifting the national economy, in particular and globally, in general, "Customs Brokers (CB)" are the one who deeply internalize: keeping abreast and diligently apply in the actual course of trade.

Hence, nobody is ever equipped of all those things above described than a Customs Broker (CB). In other words, considering the expertise of CB's (nature of profession), both all importations and exportation/s must be signed by a CB before it shall be processed at the Bureau of Customs (BOC), exercising as quasi customs official that initially determine the correctness and authenticity of the documents presented, giving advises to the transacting public with the latest trends, procedures and privileges that they may supposed to be entitled with the end view of suppressing smuggling, maximizing collection of duties and taxes, encourage investments and generate jobs that would undeniably impact the national economy and enhancing the domestic market/industries to be prepared in the challenges of globalization.
Further, to enumerate the scope of the practice of CB (as per R.A. 9280), Customs Broker profession involves the services consisting of consultation, preparations of customs requisite documents for imports and exports, declaration of customs duties and taxes, preparation, signing, filing, lodging and processing of import and export entries; representing importers and exporters before any government agency and private entities in cases related to valuation and classification of imported articles and rendering of other professional services in matters relating to customs and tariff laws, its procedures and practices.
In laymen terms, CB's acts as the following:
1. Accountant that determines the correct declaration and computation of customs duties and taxes.
2. Lawyer that represents in behalf of the importers and exporters before any the government agencies and private entities.
3. Teacher/Doctor that educates and advice the transacting public with the latest updates relative to both import and exports.
4. Man power service provider that facilitates the actual processing and releasing of shipments.
5. Transport/trucking entity that delivers shipment to clients as cleared and released from the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
6. Quasi government official that initially scrutinize the documents presented by the importer and exporter.
